Freelancehomewriters.com is a Scam!

Monday, April 26, 2010

About 10 percent of the emails I receive through this site are from dissatisfied customers of Freelancehomewriters.com, a site with a name very similar to this one. I believe this site is a scam, as most of these emails contain accounts of over-billing, continued billing after the individual has canceled the subscription and in some cases, refusal to remove the person's email address from their spammy mailing list.

The site claims to be a subscription service that matches you with writing jobs and opportunities. They offer a 7-day trial period for $2.95 and if you don't cancel, you'll be billed the full monthly amount - $47 per month! I don't know about you, but I'd never pay that kind of money for a chance to work, especially since there's no way to scan the supposed "listings" prior to forking over your credit card information. You can find these same types of opportunities at sites like Freelance Writing Gigs or FreelanceWriting.com, or through bidding sites like Elance and Guru

How to Contact Freelancehomewriters.com If You've Been Scammed

If you've been scammed by this site, please don't email me, because I didn't charge you. I know our site names are similar (I guess I should have done more research before naming this blog.), but I promise I'm not the one taking your money or spamming you. I'm definitely not going to share any of my link juice with this scam-site, but I will tell you how to contact someone who can help you.

The company does provide a phone number on their website. Try calling 1-800-750-7660 Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 AM Central Standard Time and from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Central Standard Time on weekends.

The site also provides a "live-chat" option, though I'm not sure how effective this will be in solving your problems. To get to the live-chat area, visit Freelancehomewriters.com and scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page. In tiny blue letters, you'll see the word "Contact." Click here and you'll be taken to the live-chat page. Chat operators are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 AM and 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM Central Standard Time on weekends.

Good luck!

I think that it's cool for you to be helpful and give advice on how to tackle sites that abuse. Hopefully people will make the distinction between yours and them! Thank you for being sane and candid at the same time. We all live in a crazy dysfunctional moment in time and your positive energy is a lifesaver ^o^.

It is really nice that you are taking the time to help those that are getting ripped off. Hopefully your post helps clear everything up for everyone.

I am curious, what do you know about GoFreelance.com? Do you think they are legit or scam... I am still trying to decide. They aren't like realwritingjobs.com, a site which makes me laugh because they just put the jobs that are available on LinkedIn and Craigslist on their site.

Just thought I would get your opinion.

It might be better to instead report the site to the Better Business Bureau or the Secret Service for fraud.

There may be a 1-800 number, but I doubt if anyone will answer.
