Happy (Late) 2010 and Ehow Updates

Wednesday, March 3, 2010

Hello, readers! I haven't posted in several months, but the time has come for an update. I've had an extremely busy year so far and what little free time I've had, I've spent working on niche blogs that have just begun to make money. I believe I've finally figured out the "secret" to making money online and it's not as hard (or expensive) as you might think, but more on that in another post. For now, I'm sure you want to know how my residuals are coming along in 2010.

Ehow

I posted one new article on Ehow in December and nothing in January, but my earnings were still on target. Here are my earnings since the last update:

November 2009 (10 new articles submitted) - $277.08
December 2009 (1 new article submitted) - $272.27
January 2010 (0 new articles submitted) - $300.51, including "compensation" from the UK site
February 2010 (7 new articles submitted) - 267.89

So, as you can see, my earnings have stayed about the same (a little less in February, since it's a short month) throughout the past few months with very few new articles submitted. I've heard grumblings that many people felt their earnings dropped because of articles displayed on the eHow UK site, but I didn't experience a decrease. In fact, my earnings actually went up a bit.

In total, I've earned $2,549.82 over the past year on eHow, including a $50 bonus when one of my articles was featured on the homepage last summer. With 188 articles at the time of this writing, five of which are brand new, that's an average of $13.56 per article. I'm quite happy with that, considering I make less per article writing for WiseGEEK. I have one article that's made over $250 and others that have only made a few bucks, but it all works out in the end. All in all, eHow is well worth the time and effort I've spent.

Other Residuals

I still receive about $30 per month from Bukisa, $50 per month from Suite 101 and about $100 per month in Adsense revenue, although I'm working on increasing that. Last month was my best Adsense month ever and my ultimate goal is to make a full time income from various niche blogs, but I think that's probably still several years away. Unfortunately, I must write for DS during the day to pay the bills, but I'm working on it.

Site Updates

I've found several more lucrative writing opportunities that I plan to feature on the blog in the coming days, so check back for those. I may be late to the party, but hopefully I can point some of my readers in the right direction. I hope to make more time for this blog, but I can't promise regular posting. Sometimes, I suffer from burn-out with all the content writing I do and I just have to take a break for a while. I'm back for the time being, at least until I can't find any more writing sites to blog about. :)

I'll try to answer the most important comments from the past several months, but I won't be able to get to all of them and if you've sent an email, I apologize that I haven't answered. I plan on going through my inbox over the next few days. Thanks for your understanding!

Goals for 2010

My goals for 2010 include creating at least five profitable niche blogs, increasing my eHow earnings by at least $100 per month and decreasing my reliance on upfront pay. I also plan to update this blog as necessary, since some of the sites I reviewed long ago have made significant changes to pay scale and structure.

I'd love to hear from you, dear readers. What are your goals for this year and how have you begun to realize them? How have your eHow earnings fared since the UK site debacle? Anything else you'd like to share? I look forward to hearing from you!

good to see you again. And please that you are making steady money. My goals for this year include being able to give up the dayjob and get a lot more of my fiction published. I'll still have to do the bread and butter stuff but I'm keen and buzzing.

I actually created my top ten goals and wrote them in a blog. Since, January, I have been elaborating on each of these goals! Goals are good! Check out mine: http://www.inspiredtowrite.com/2010/01/my-ten-writing-goals-for-2010.html

V. good to hear from you again! Hope things continue to go well for you. Thought I'd drop by and let you know, though I'm sure you have already heard, that Demand Studios are apparently now taking Canadian and UK applications! Very good news for those of us outside the US, thought your readers might like to know...

Happy 2010. Nice to see you back! Looking forward to learning more about how your earning with Adsense. I'm finally seeing some progress there myself,but not as much as you.

Yet on ehow, I have markedly fewer articles than you do and earn about the same. Weird how I can do well with ehow and struggle with Adsense.

I feel so stupid! I bookmarked this blog back in October and I've been checking it once a week. I was wondering why there hasn't been an update since then because there are still updates on the eHow earnings tracker. Today, I realized that I had bookmarked a specific post on the blog. To get the new posts, I had to go to the home page. Duh! Anyways, it's nice to finally see an update. Your goals are great! My one goal is to get to $1,000 per month on eHow. I have 50 articles so it will probably take a couple months. If I write 25 articles per week, it will take 5 months to get to 1,000.

@Michael - Nice to see you again and I'll definitely keep you updated as I can. :)

@Jen - Thanks!

@Paul - Good luck with your fiction writing and your liberating experience of quitting the day job!

@Julie - I'll be sure to check out your goals as soon as I have a spare minute. Thanks for stopping by!

@Deanna - Thanks! Good to see you again, too!

@Mz. Eb. - Well, I can't stay away for too long. :)

@stephen - I heard the good news! I'm sure my Canadian and UK readers are thrilled for a chance with DS and I'm glad there's finally a reputable company offering upfront pay for International writers, even if only for a few select countries.

@Writer M - I know what you mean. I struggled with eHow when I first began, which is why my first batch of articles don't earn as much as my later submissions.

I use a slightly different approach with Adsense sites than I do with eHow, which I hope to explain further on the blog in the future.

I'm glad to hear you're doing so well with eHow! It's always encouraging to know people are doing better than me! :)

@Ally - Good luck meeting your goals! I hope to someday make $1000+ per month on ehow, too. I only wish I had the time to write more articles for the site. It sounds like you'll be there in no time! :)

Great earnings Willow! Looks like you're having success with every site you publish content on. I just got started with Suite101 about a week ago, so I'm excited to see how the residual income is there. I hear it's great, but we'll see how it goes. I look forward to following along, and will add you to my Residual Income Challenge blog. Best of luck!
