I'm Back with Residual Income Updates and More!

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

I know it's been months since I've updated the blog and I thank all of my loyal readers for your concern while I was away, but I needed a break. There was just too much drama at the time and blogging wasn't fun anymore. I also disappeared from my social sites and forums because I was focusing too much on these things instead of making money.

However, I must admit I've missed it and I found tons of new things to share during my hiatus. I can't stay away anymore, so I'm back and plan to post at least semi-regularly until my next break. I don't think I'll be back on Twitter, at least not now anyway, but I do plan to check out the WAHM forums again. Things have really changed over there since I last visited, but I do love the new look.

First, I'll update on my residuals for the past few months. I haven't been focusing as much on residuals since DS has been providing me with so much work. I was actually able to save $1000 this month! It's going to be a good Christmas as long as we don't have any major crises spring up. (I hope I haven't jinxed myself!)

Now to the good stuff.....

Ehow Residuals July - September

What can I say? Ehow has been good to me. I have only written between 5 and 10 new articles per month, but my earnings have still increased each month. I had a low month in August for some strange reason, but aside from that, I'm quite happy with my progress. If I had been writing more articles, my earnings would be much higher now so keep that in mind when considering what I've made so far. I've updated the earnings in the sidebar so you can take a look at where I am.

I have two articles that have made over $100 each, both in the finance category. My others have made anywhere from $90 to a few cents each. I'm getting better at finding keywords that pay well and my earnings have reflected this. If you follow my eHow tutorials and write more than I do, I'm confident you can make a lot more than me in the same amount of time. I hope to increase my output of eHow articles in the following months, but we'll see how things go.

Other Residuals July - September

Okay, I'll admit it. I quit writing for Examiner. I still think they are a good place to write, especially if you have a popular topic, but I had too much going on and I was making the least amount of money there. Someone had to go, and unfortunately it was Examiner. I just can't be tied down to such a rigid posting requirement. It's not always possible for me to write three or four articles per week when I'm focusing on DS, eHow and other residual sites that pay more.

I have 30 articles on Bukisa, and I continue to make about $15 to $20 per month. I have one article that has made over $50, although the rest only make a few cents to a few bucks each. I've written one article there in the past six months, and all others have been there since the beginning of the year. I like Bukisa for posting low-paying keyword articles that get a lot of traffic. I wouldn't waste high-paying keywords there, though.

Suite 101 continues to be a great earner for me, although I don't write there nearly as often as I'd like. I have 30 articles there and I make around $40 per month. It's still one of my favorites and I hope to expand my article library there in the future.

I've made about $80 to $100 per month in Adsense revenue from this site, other blogs, Xomba and Hubpages. That's not too bad, considering I rarely post to any of these and have very few articles on Xomba and Hubpages.

I've also begun writing for another residual/upfront site, which I will explore in a new post in the next few days. I'm sure you'll be very excited about it, as it's very easy to get accepted and the pay is quite good.

The Future (I Wonder What They Meant, When They Said Repent)

I couldn't resist myself there, and bonus points for anyone who gets that. Hehe. Anyway, I will be back with a new post soon and I've got a few new sites to review, new writing tips and more fun stuff that I know you'll love. I'm also thinking of doing some videos, which I think will help the people who are struggling to understand keywords and SEO.

For now, I better get to bed, as I have a full day of writing ahead. Also, I know there are tons of unanswered comments and messages from the past few months, but I'm not going to go back and answer them. Instead, I will be answering any new comments and messages from this point forward. I just don't have the time to backtrack now. Thanks for understanding!

Also, I would love some HP tips. I am so sucking on Hub Pages. It is SO weird. I am doing super well on eHow and all I hear are crickets chirping on HP. It is driving me nuts!

Plus I really like HP so I want to make it work. I do 2 text modules, 1 picture, 3 videos whenever possible, polls, and amazon stuff on most of my hubs. Plus SEO and some back links.

I think I made $2 this month from HP. eHow will be almost $200. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for the welcome back, guys. I've missed blogging, really!

@WriterM - I do plan to post on HubPages sometime soon. I only have 6 or 8 articles there, but I see clicks almost daily. I basically use the same principals for finding keywords that I use for Ehow, but I try to make my hubs 600-800 words long, add as many pics as I can and a video or two. That's really about it, but it took several months before I saw ANY revenue there. Maybe it just takes a while to start earning. The site isn't as big as eHow and they don't have the same PR and Alexa ranking, although they are getting there. At first, I didn't think they were worth it, but now I'm glad I invested the time in those few articles so many months ago. Maybe you just need to give it a bit more time. :)

Thanks for the response Willow! I think I've had hubs going for about 4 weeks now? So maybe my content just needs to age. I follow their guidelines for, what is it called?, the hub authority program or anchor hubs--can't remember their term for it, whatever it is, I do that as a general rule.

It's just a shock because earnings on ehow are sooooooo fast in comparison. I am really doing well on ehow. I can see making $500 a month easily within the next 6 months if I work at it.

Any time people complain about the lack of money on HP, I tell them to go to ehow if they want money today.

I would like to diversify my income so I'm not relying solely on ehow but I'm not finding the same level of revenue on other sites. Even my website that ranked #1 in google for several terms didn't make as much money as I did on ehow for the same topic.

She's baaaaack! I like the new design and I'm glad to hear that all of your residuals are doing so well. I had a dip in August as well, but I think that's pretty normal for that month. it's hot and people just aren't online as much. In a lot of countries, they take that month for their vacation, so Internet traffic tends to be low. I think everything of mine took a dive that month.

Could you give us a hint as to what this new residual/upfront site you've begun writing for is?
Curiosity is killing me.

@WriterM - I know what you mean and I also don't understand it. I don't make nearly as much money on HubPages, although I do get clicks consistently and I like the site. I think just like with any other site, the more effort you put into it (meaning the more articles you write) the more money you'll make. :)

@anonymom - Thanks for the welcome back. I'm glad that you like the blog and I'll be sure to check out yours as well. :)

@LShepherd - Well, I'm glad to know I wasn't alone there. This is my first year of tracking my online income, so I've yet to observe any trends. I'll definitely keep this summer low in mind next year.

@Ms. Eb - Thanks! I'm feeling much better and glad to be back. :)

@Stevejamaican - The new site is Life123. It's the next post after this one. Enjoy! :)
