I have no personal experience writing for the site, but there appears to be quite a bit of controversy over their legitimacy and payment practices. Here is a post made by a writer who has been paid by the company. There are also many negative reviews of the company, so apply and work at your own risk. Here are a list of some of the many sites I found discussing EssayWriters:
One thing that I have noticed, is that most of these complaints are at least two years old. I haven't found any recent complaints about failure to pay or bad treatment of writers, etc. Perhaps they've changed? Again, I have no personal experience, so if any of my readers have more information, please let us know!
Another form of controversy concerning this site is that you are essentially being paid to perform someone else's homework. If you have a problem with this from an ethical standpoint, you might not want to get involved with the site.
Requirements, Payment, Etc.
If you're still interested, you may have a shot with Essaywriters if you have a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD degree, and possess excellent writing skills. I have heard that they don't check credentials or make you prove that you hold a degree, but again, this is only hearsay.
Payment is $16/page, and assignments can be from one to several pages in length. You'll be paid biweekly, but I have no information on the payment methods available. Pay is between the 1st and 3rd of the month and the 15th and 18th of the month for assignments completed in the previous two week period.
They also claim to pay bonuses to the best writers. According to the website, "If the client is very satisfied with the paper you have written, we pay you up to 20% extra of the order cost."
The website claims that you can choose your own workload and only take the assignments that you choose. They also claim to offer growth opportunities and earnings upgrades for writers. I do believe International writers are accepted, since there's a testimonial written by a U.K. writer on the website, but I'm not sure if this includes all countries.
Conclusion
I'm just not sure about this one, folks. There seems to be quite a bit of negative feedback surrounding the company, but I've also seen many people who were happy there. I guess it depends on what you're comfortable doing for money, and if you can trust a company that's been accused of cheating writers in the past.
Is anyone out there a past or current writer for EssayWriters? Do you have any experiences you'd like to share?

I would never come on someone else's blog and tell people what to do, but I do hope that people think long and hard before consenting to write for a site like this.
No matter how you cut it, if you sign up for this site and its ilk, you are writing papers for people who intend to use your work to cheat. When you help someone cheat, you not only help them cheat themselves out of an education, you help them cheat other, honest people out of positions – class rankings, honor’s programs, college admission – that rightfully belong to them.
Writing for sites like these is simply not ethical and I hope no serious freelancers consider compromising their high standards for a quick $16/page.
Hi, jennescalone - Thank you for your comment. While I could not personally write for a site such as this one, and I agree with your sentiments, I also believe that morals are subjective.
The purpose of this site is to present ALL the options and let writers make their own decisions. This is why I specifically stated that you will be doing someone else's homework in the post. If writers aren't comfortable with this, they can quickly move on.
On the other hand, I don't presume to judge what someone else does for money, and this is a site about writing opportunities - so I list ALL of them that I come across.
I trust that my readers can make their own ethical decisions, but I do thank you for taking the time to share your opinion. :)
Hi Willow,
I hate to admit this but yeah, I did a bit of work for this company earlier this year. And while there were no problems with payment, I didn't feel too good doing some one else's homework for them.. So quit writing some time ago.. However, payment wise, I didn't have any problems.. But then again, I might have just been lucky.. since even I've heard quite a bit of negative feedback going around the forums.. Hope this helps..
Compensation actually varies quite a bit - I've been accepted but haven't actually started writing for them yet. Looks like it ranges from $5 per page to as high as $20 per page, depending on the topic.
Hi, Iakul here. I'm the writer of Top Sites You Should Not Write For. The Triond network, where my article is hosted has this graph that shows me where hits for my articles come from, so firstly, thanks for linking to my article :-)
That article is more an overview of fraudulent sites and publishers in general though, so I think this article I have written about Essaywriters.net specifically at http://www.helium.com/items/1159745-essaywritersnet might be more suitable.
Basically, the gist of what I said in that article was
1) A site claiming to be a freelance writing site with years of experience shouldn't have so many grammar mistakes on their site. After all they have already had years to fix it and they're a freelance writing company, so there's no excuse for not being able to find the right person for the job.
2)They also shouldn't have testimonials which tend to exhibit the same sort of grammar mistakes that they make on the rest of their site.
3)Stating that a Bachelor, Masters or PhD degree is a requirement for freelance writers, but never actaully asking for proof during the entire signup process. Plus, they never actually state Bachelor, Masters or PhD degree in what. Pretty much a ploy to get writers to believe that they have been accepted by an elite company. Think about it seriously. Assuming that they really do require a degree, just what does having a Bachelor in, say, Dentistry, have to do with qualifying for a job as a freelance writer?
Iakul
Your blog is so informative and helpful. We even have some common interests - vegetarianism and herbalism. I will definitely be following you. Thanks again!
Hi. the content of your blog is very interesting.
Work from home
Thanks for writing about this. I'm just now getting into freelance writing hoping to make some extra income and so far have not had much success. I appreciate having a site like this to refer to. Thanks!
I have to second Jenn Escalona on this--essay and term paper sites are not only bad for your writer's rep, they are also frowned highly upon by Google.
I say this because if you link to such sites (with your resume, for example) you run the risk of being banned or "sandboxed" by Google thereby making your site impossible to find on a Google search. Avoid, avoid, avoid.
I have SO many A papers I wrote in college. I would LOVE to sell them and get the money ... that being said, I'm totally torn about it and haven't decided. I never cheated in college. Would it constitute "cheating" if I sold my term papers to someone else to turn them in as their own? I think it would. Sigh. Guess I just made my decision.
Hi
Firstly, thank you so much for this blog. This blog has so much of useful information, especially, for a person like me who started writing only couple of months back.
Truly, I cannot thank you enough. You research is tremendous and for the whole night I read every single of your blog posts.
Now, I have a question for you...I hope you don't mind. I am from India and most of the writing websites I apply to demands only US writers. Can you please list 5 good websites which pay upfront for writing and are open to Internation writers.
It would be a great help if you can help me on the matter as I am really confused about it.
I hope to hear from you.
Regards
Aunindita
@Aunindita - these sites give upfront payment to international writers:
Helium
Getafreelancer.com
Constant-Content
eLance.com
oDesk.com
Hi Eve
Thank you for the sites.
GAF, eLance and odesk - all three are bidding sites, and I somehow do not like them due to new writers offering excessive low rates which disturbs he whole marketplace.
Helim only pays if a client liked any particular article, otherwise they share heir revenue.
What I was looking for sites which pay about 10usd per article upfront.
I hope you know such sites and introduce me to them.
Regards
Aunindita

Ummm ... Willow, where are you? You're one of my favorite bloggers and I think I'm not alone when I say "WE MISS YOU!"
No more willow? Your earnings updates help keep me motivated. We miss you!
Hello, I just wanted to let you guys know that I did sign up to become a writer for this site. I am going to offer my two cents just to help give you an inside perspective. Not to say that what happened to me will happen to you... this is my experience in trying to work with them.
First, you need to know that they do not buy papers you have already written. They have clients, most of which appear to be college students, needing papers written. The pay is really rather low for the amount of work that you have to put into the papers as far as research and formatting.
Secondly, you have to login every 24 hours if you have a job pending. It does not matter if the job is not due for 2 days or 2 weeks, if you do not log in EVERYDAY, they will call you. They will call you at all hours of the day and night.
Thirdly, they charge YOU if you are late regardless if the fact you are late is because you are waiting on the client to respond to an issue you had on an assignment. They don't care. They will bill the client for the work, and they will charge you a fee for being late.
I wrote four papers for this site.
One of which was late due to the client not responding.Though the request was marked urgent.
The second was completed on time and even revised twice for the client. They pay on the was pending.
The third project was written to spec. I followed the guidelines of not only EssayWriters but the guidelines that were needed by the professor for that paper... only to have the client reject it in the end stating that it did not meet the requirements. I was told that I would not be paid for that.
The final, this was the end. Essay was written, followed all guidelines, accepted by the client and EssayWriters, turned in before deadline. Showed payment should be coming.
What they told me was that I had fees and penalties that were due on the other projects and that the payment on this assignment did not cover what I owed them.
Customer Service, of no help. There is no way for a writer to dispute a claim against the company to get money that is owed to them.
For the first time in my professional career as a writer... I had to tell them less then politely what they could do with their site and the fees they think I owe them.
Beware in working with them.
Wow, Jen ... they charged you?! That is crazy. I have never heard of that before. Yikes. Thanks for letting us all know about your experience.
Willow - I hope you're OK and just on vacation! Come back to the blog when you feel ready. You are sorely missed.
I know I'm starting to sound like a weird stalker - but WHERE ARE YOU? Why haven't you been posting?! Talk to us, talk to us.
Girl, where have you been? Everybody is worried about you!
I wonder if I should write a blog post on my blog entitled "Where in the World is Willow Sidhe"?
Yes, I agree- Willow where are you?!
