Textbroker is a great way to earn money by doing what you love. You don't have to be a professional writer to complete articles, however, the better you write, the more you can earn.
This is what makes TextBroker stand out from the crowd. They will hire absolute newbies with no prior experience as long as you can write clearly and concisely. The pay is rather low in the beginning, but you are able to get some experience, earn some extra cash, and the better you write, the more quickly you'll gain access to higher-paying jobs. There are some writers from WAHM.com who make the bulk of their income from this site.
How Much Does TextBroker Pay?
You will be paid by the word when you write for TextBroker. The amount you're paid is dependent upon your rating. When you apply, you'll be required to submit a small writing sample on a topic of their choosing. Once submitted, you'll be given a star rating. The average rating, and what most people begin with, is a 3.
Once you have your rating, you can go in and begin to claim assignments. There are four ratings, from 2-5. If you have a rating of three, you can claim articles in the two and three star categories. If you have a rating of four, you can claim articles in the two, three, and four star categories, etc.
The difference in pay can be substantial between stars. The 2-star articles are worth less than $0.01 per word, the 3-star articles are worth about $0.01 per star, and the 5 star articles can be worth as much as $0.03 per word. So, if you're determined to make Textbroker work for you, do your very best on the low paying jobs and get your rating up. Then, you'll be able to write many more assignments at higher prices.
Payment is made monthly via PayPal. Once you've accumulated $10, you can request a payout by the 5th of the month. All the money you earned in the month will be paid out around the 10th of the following month, as long as you have requested a payout. This means, you can hold your payments until you have a larger payout, if you like. But, you also can't forget to hit that request button, or you could miss your payment for the month.
What Type of Articles Will I Write for TextBroker?
Unlike many other content sites which hire freelance writers, TextBroker doesn't post the articles to their own website and profit from them. Instead, clients who need articles written for their own projects contact TextBroker and pay to have articles written on a variety of topics. These requests are listed on the TextBroker website for the writers to claim and write. You can choose anything you want from the list (as long as it's in your star range), and I have seen a HUGE variety of subjects available.
I have personally written articles on the benefits of fruit, exercise clothing, colon cleansing, fine art, and dog training. Most of the articles are VERY simple to write and require almost no research. Plus, if you feel that the article would be too much work for the price, you don't have to write it. Search through the list until you find something you can write quickly, and go from there. These clients don't expect a research paper for $4.50, but a general overview with a few keywords thrown in.
Also, each individual article will have it's own instructions to follow. You can look over these instructions before you decide to write the article. However, the most unique feature that TextBroker offers is the ability to receive direct orders from clients....
What Are Textbroker Direct Orders?
If you write a few articles (or even one) for a client, and they really like your work, they can request you specifically by sending you a direct order. The great thing about this is that you can set your own per-word rates. The default rate is set to $0.015 per word, but you can change this anytime you like.
You also have the ability to message the client directly and offer your services for direct orders if you feel you would be a good fit for the subject matter. This is a great, easy way to get some personal clients through the site, and is a nice introduction for newbies into writing directly for clients. Here's what the website says about Direct Orders:
A DirectOrder offers our clients the possibility to assign their orders directly to one single author. As an author, you can set your own word price for DirectOrders. You can even specify different price points for each client who wants to work with you. You can contact clients and negotiate prices using our internal messaging system.
What Else Should I Know About TextBroker?
Keep in mind that you are essentially a ghost writer when you work for TextBroker. This means that you can't use any of the articles you write as samples in a portfolio and of course, you don't own the rights to these articles. However, you can list TextBroker on your freelance writing resume.
TextBroker does not accept International Writers at this time. They are a German company, but have an office in Nevada, in the United States. This office only hires American writers to compose articles. In fact, according to this article, TextBroker currently has more than 13,000 writers on contract and is still growing rapidly and hiring nationwide.
What's The Verdict?
TextBroker is a great starting place for new web writers, and can even provide some great filler work for more experienced writers. Although the starting pay is low, you can easily get your rating up if you're a good writer. Once you're a 4 or 5 star writer, the pay rivals that of many other content sites.
The website is very simple and easy to understand. You can claim one article at a time and write as many as you like. The pay is monthly, so you'll need to be okay with that, especially if you want to make this a full time income.
Overall, I highly recommend TextBroker if you want an easy place to write, you have little experience, or you don't mind working for low pay for a bit until you get your rating up. The site is not for everyone, but they are reliable, legitimate, and pay on time every month. For more information about Textbroker, visit the Author's Page or the Author's FAQ. Good Luck!

Great article. I write for TextBroker at times when I am tired of coming up with my own topics and want actual assignments. I'm at a level that pays good, but it is still low for writing. It is fun sometimes, tho, to write there and they do always pay on time.

Textbroker is a good opportunity for new writers to try their hand at various web writing needs. Textbroker offers a variety of assignments to offer something to most any writer. Textbroker offers an opportunity to gain clients because of their Direct Order feature. Because, in freelance writing, a regular client is a regular client. You have to stand firm to your rates in a Direct Order. The way to make TextBroker profitable for you is to have a strategy. My strategy is that I have my profile aligned for my specialty topics, I strictly follow all client instructions, I ask questions when I need to and I send queries and follow-ups. This means, after I finish writing for a text for a client I have never worked with, I send them a message detailing my eagerness to work with them again. If I see a text but I didn't grab it, I send them a query for further work. I detail my unique per word rate and I actively solicit the Direct Order.
It is like the world of freelance writing in a bubble. And no matter what others say, you have to remember that low pay isn't the only pay.
Just my two cents!

on average, how long after you do the five starter articles does it take you to be reviewed and released so that you can do more? I'm itching to work tons during this last week so I can have a decent payout come the 5th of next month?
@Write Moms - Most of the people I speak with use TextBroker in the same way you do. It is lower paying than other sites, but it's guaranteed money and sometimes we all need that. :)
@Jessie - Thanks so much for this insight. I think that's a great way to utilize TextBroker to accumulate clients. I used employ this strategy when I wrote for NAA and it worked wonders. I think that is TextBroker's redeeming quality - that you're able to set your own rate and actually make decent money through the Direct Orders.
@Tina - I'm sorry but I'm not sure about the wait time. This is a relatively new feature and they didn't make you wait when I wrote for them. Perhaps some of the ladies on the WAHM.com forums could help you. :)
Thanks willow, I popped off a quick email to them and poof, all five were reviewed and now I have unlimited access. Sure the pay is low and probably "not worth" many other's time, but I can write four or five of these quickies without a bit of research or worry that I won't be paid for them, which is totally worth my time!

Hi, Tina. That's great to know! I'm glad it's working out well for you there. :)
Textbroker was the first site I wrote for so I guess they will always have a place in my heart for that haha. But now they pay twice a month!
unfortunately for me, I'm not a resident of the US so this site isn't open for me.
I'm Indian, can you suggest some good site to begin my writing career?
I turned 18 this year so I thought about writing for money:)
This site is pretty good as well! I have managed to get to level 4 in a little amount of time and now I average about $5 per article. I write 20 articles a day for an average of $100. This isn't bad at all!
I also want to point out another site called, "Gizelle Fashion Content'. They also have good writing jobs. I have written a couple of pieces for them at $20 an article, but those were for editorial pieces. The owner is quite nice and if you want to make mre for your writer, you can.
To be accepted, you would need to write a short writing sample and tell them what subjects you cover. Even if you are not the best write,r you can still get some writing projects. There site is at

Good article, but how much does Textbroker pay if you're classified as a 4 star writer?
I've been working for textbroker for several months now. It's a truly great website. It pays well for the average online writing site, even still, I think you should check your facts. Textbroker pays bi weekly or atleast they do now friend.
Thanks BBP-Studios
Wonderful information. I recently left my teaching job and am looking for an vehicle to push me into freelance. This looks like a great place to begin. Thank you!
Hi, Creator of BBP Studios!
This post was written before the bi-weekly payment structure TextBroker currently employs. Thanks for pointing that out to future readers, though! :)
@D - Yes, Textbroker is a great place to begin and become accustomed to writing for the web. Good luck there and don't hesitate to ask if you need any help!
Hello friend. I didn't mean to come off rude. I only meant to inform. But yes, it is a pretty great site to begin. Do you have any suggestions on where I could continue on?
Thanks, BBP-Studios
[ps- i like ghost writing for textbroker, are there and similar ones that may pay more.]
Thanks for this article! I just had my writing sample rated and was searching the web for verification that TextBroker is legit before I sent them my W9.
Textbroker is very reliable, I sent in my W9 and in just a couple of days they had it verified.

Thanks a bunch. I was looking for a good site that I could write articles for. I have a blog but sometimes the content I want to writw about doesn't fit my niche. I'm glad that there are sites out there looking for new writers like me.
Very nice article. My one quibble with it would be that many of the articles actually DO require a lot of research. At least, if you want to do a proper job they do.
Frankly, for the price they are paying, I don't think the clients should be asking for that much research at all. It feels like clients are getting something for nothing when extensive research is requested. Clients should provide the info and merely be asking the writer to say it in an original way.
Some of the research was very complicated as in looking up different laws, etc. (Frankly, I feel like I should just keep the rights to an article and use it myself or sell it to a higher paying client after that much research.)
I do agree they are a legit company, I would just be careful of being taken advantage of by clients, as the pay is already way below standard industry rates (even at level 4 - 1.5c a word).
I agree with Sharon. I have written several articles with them and I really enjoy it. They are legit, always on time as I was a big skeptical before sending in my W-9 as well.
I also feel like some of them expect too much research for the pay so I try not to take those assignments. I had a direct order today that wanted multiple links which meant more research. I did one and told them I didn't have time to do another. Total pay was only $2.00 and that's just not worth my time, even just as a hobby.
I gotta admit that like all of you, the pay is pretty low. I have been a writer since July 2008 and once made $175.25 back in April 2009. I am aiming to make more next month since I didn't do it on a daily basis to write a certain amount for some money everyday. So far, been persistent but with a now one month old baby girl, makes it harder to work when I wanted to. She is sleeping now but might as well work. I need more money so anyway, now, they pay twice a month of between the 1st and 5th and the second time would be between the 21st and 25th. Just thought you need to update that info. Oh yeah. I'm Laurie1979 on wahm.com forum
Hi. I love, love, love your blog! I just wanted to share my experience with textbroker. I don't consider myself to be a professional writer by any means. It's more of a hobby to me that I have recently discovered can bring in a little extra money. I applied to textbroker and was delightfully shocked to receive a 4 star rating to start. I wasn't sure exactly how things worked so I started off by writing two 2 star articles, which I will not write again because quite frankly they are just not worth my time. I have since only done 4 star articles. I have only been with them about 2 1/2 weeks and have made over $50. Not great, but not bad. I was trying to write one article a day during the week, but sometimes find this hard since I have a small son and am currently expecting another baby and have days of extreme fatigue. Yeah, I think that the pay is rather low, but I have also never written for any other up front pay sites. I think that one of the biggest things with textbroker is that you have to be sure an article is worth your time for the pay. I think there are an awful lot of clients that want 4 star articles at 2 star rates. All in all, I think it's a great site. I like that you can work your way up and that you also have the opportunity to do direct orders. For me personally, I need to make about $3000 by the end of October. I would like to either try to write more for them or possibly write for another higher paying site. I'm just a little uneasy about "applying" at a higher paying site since I do not have a lot of experience or a degree or anything of that sort. With that said, any suggestions??? Thanks! :)
CAN ANYONE TELL ME OF OTHER LEGIT WEBSITES FOR WRITERS??? I LOVE TO WRITE, AND I WOULD LIKE TO EARN MONEY BY DOING SOMETHING THAT I TRULY LOVE. PLEASE EMAL ME IF YOU KNOW!

THANKS!!!
I signed up for textbroker yesterday and started out with 4 stars. I've only written three articles totaling around 800 words so far and made just over $10. This is my first time writing professionally so I'm still just getting my feet wet, but so far so good!
And I found this blog while researching how legitimate textbroker is. I think I love it. Thanks Willow!
I really liked this blog. I signed up for Text Broker about a month ago and did nothing with it for a few weeks. I was disgusted with the pay, as I started out with a 3 star rating like most. However, one day I decided to give it a shot and write a few articles on topics I knew fairly well and wouldn't need to research very much. I was able to do 3 in under an hour, so my interest peaked a bit.
Since then, my batch of 5 was reviewed and I was given unlimited access. My rating is a 4 and I write about 12 a week for an average of $70. $70 for about 4 to 4 1/2 hours of work is not bad in my book, and I also write for other sites, so my income is fairly stable.
That's really the key to freelance writing folks. Don't put all of your eggs in one basket and try any legit opportunity at least once!
Wow, this blog is an absolute gem! Any person trying to make it in the freelance world should really check this out! After reading this post I applied to Textbroker last night. Hopefully things turn out well. :)

Hey Willow,
I just got my first freelance gig writing for textbroker.com - I'm so excited! Yay making a little bit of money doing something that doesn't involve fast food or selling shoes. Your website is so, so helpful. Thanks again!

I just signed up for textbroker based on this article and submitted a writing sample. I have zero prior experience as a writer (except that I write songs), but was instantly given a 4 rating based on my writing sample. Now, to find an assignment that I can actually handle...:)
Thank You! This post is exactly what I was looking for. I just signed up and thought I would give them a try.
There's also Londonbrokers.net which is similar to Textbroker. It accepts native English speakers only, but you don't have to be from the US.
You can be from Canada, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, etc.
Their pay is about the same as Textbroker. You have to take a test to apply, but it's relatively easy and you can look up the answers on Google.
You get paid by PayPal every Friday. Plus, you can earn bonuses on the articles you write if your submit them early.
Their articles are written for article spinners, so it London Brokers will tell you exactly how they want the articles written, how many paragraphs it needs to have.
For those who need crank out articles for cash, then you might also want to try London Brokers.
