Here's another opportunity for freelance writer jobs at a site that pays per word. Writer Wrangler pays 1-2 cents per word and they also have other writing opportunities. This site doesn't appear to be hiring all the time, but you can check back occasionally and see if they are need of more writers. From the website:
"We are looking for writers that are interested in getting a lot of work...writing articles for 1 to 2 cents a word. We are also looking for more writers that can do copywriting and specialized writing (higher rates than article writing)."
They pay via PayPal. Although I don't have personal experience writing here, I have confirmed that it is a legitimate site with work available regularly. If you're interested, visit Writer Wrangler and fill out the application form. You'll need to submit at least two different writing samples in the form of a zip file as well.
The site also has a freelance writer's forum open to the public that you can join and interact with other writers. It's a really nice feature and I recommend you check it out. There's not much activity there yet, but they're trying to create a community. Good luck!
